Student Life at Morton

It was a busy week before Mid-Winter Break! On top of learning, the students were amazing at the Talent Show and students were busy decorating doors!

  • Black History Month Doors were incredible! Check out some of them below!

  • Author Kyle Lukoff came to discuss his book Too Bright to See!

  • 6th graders practice using an atlas in Social Studies!

Dear Families,

Monday marks the end of required masking in NYC schools. This announcement comes with excitement and anxiety for students and staff. While many students and staff are thrilled not to wear a mask, some teachers and students will continue to mask during the school day.

Students discussed respecting each other's mask preferences during advisory on Friday. Please talk tonight as a family about what your child will do tomorrow morning as well as reminding them that others may make a different choice.

All staff, students, and visitors will continue to complete the health screening, and all visitors in the building must be vaccinated.

We are cautiously optimistic about this step forward and hope that it marks the next phase in managing COVID in the school setting.

Valerie

From Previous Newsletters:

  • UPDATED QUARANTINE POLICY 1/31/22 - Based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and New York State Department of Health (DOH) guidance, the New York City Department of Education (DOE) has shortened the isolation period for K-12 students with a positive COVID-19 test result from 10 days to 5 days. This means if your child tests positive for COVID-19 and is in kindergarten or higher, your child can return to school on Day 6 if they have no symptoms or their symptoms are improving, and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. Students returning from isolation on Day 6 must wear a well-fitting mask such as a KN95, KF94, or a cloth mask over a disposable surgical mask on Days 6–10.
