Dear Families,
I am writing to let you know that after 36 years as an educator, I will be retiring as principal of 75 Morton and from the NYC DOE, on September 1, 2021.
While I am tempted to write pages, I will keep this short, and send one more letter filled with THANK YOUS before the end of school.
Sometime during the 2015-2016 school year, I kept seeing emails about a school- actually a proposal for a school- from the 75 Morton Community Alliance. I went to a meeting, sat in the back, and listened. The idea for the school was everything I believed in: zoned and not screened. And so I pursued the possibility of leading this school, and it has become everything I’ve dreamed of and more.
I have no doubt you all know how much I love this community of families, staff, and students. I am quite sure I have driven home that sentiment time and again in the over 175 Family Letters I have written to this community. All of you have grown, and continue to grow a strong school with deep foundations of equity.
While I may be retiring, and this is important, the HEART of 75 Morton will still be here!
Ilene Zucker and Katie Altman, our wonderful Assistant Principals who have been at 75 Morton since day 1, will be HERE.
The staff of 75 Morton will be HERE.
The families that keep us going- all of you will be HERE.
Our rising, delicious 7th and 8th graders will be HERE.
Our eagerly anticipated 6th graders will be HERE.
And each of those groups carry the traditions, memories, beliefs, vision, and future of 75 Morton. The 75 Morton COMMUNITY has always, and will always be the heartbeat of this school. Leaving 75 Morton in your hands means I can, with confidence, know it will all be ok.
Superintendent Kelly McGuire will take next steps to find a wonderful new principal- I have great confidence in his understanding of our school and the 75 Morton vision.
Thank you for every single minute of leading 75 Morton- it has been thoroughly fulfilling, challenging, rewarding and filled with love.
With Respect,
Jacqui
